The UPSC Marks Calculator is a tool developed by the Classic IAS Academy for UPSC CSE candidates to calculate their overall marks by adjusting the negative markings and marks distribution in both GS & CSAT. For Prelims Marks Calculator - The GS paper consists of 100 questions with a negative marking of 1/3rd of the total marks, that is 0.66 marks, and 2 marks allocated for the correct answer. For CSAT Marks Calculator - The CSAT paper consists of 80 questions with a negative marking of 1/3rd of the total marks, that is 0.83 marks, and 2.5 marks allocated for the correct answer.

Negative Marking in UPSC Prelims

Negative marking in UPSC: The civil services exam conducted by UPSC has three stages - Prelims, Mains, and the Interview. The prelims stage is a kind of screening test to write UPSC CSE Mains. Only prelims have a negative marking scheme of 1/3rd of the total marks for each incorrect answer. Negative marking in UPSC Prelims Paper 1

UPSC Prelims syllabus is divided into 2 parts - GS & CSAT. GS (General Studies) includes a wide range of subjects like history, polity, economy, environment, and current affairs. The paper 1 of prelims contains 100 questions and each question carries 2 marks and for incorrect answers, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd of the total marks (that is 0.66 marks in paper 1).

Negative marking in CSAT

The General Studies Paper - 2 (CSAT) is qualifying in nature and requires 33% marks in this paper. CSAT(Civil Services Aptitude Test) includes maths, reasoning, and comprehension. The CSAT section contains 80 questions that carry 2.5 marks for the right answer and 1/3rd negative marks for each incorrect answer (that is 0.83 marks in paper 2).

To calculate marks in UPSC prelims, candidates are required to calculate the total attempted questions and then the number of right answers and incorrect answers then calculate using this formula:
Paper 1: No. of right answers x 2 - No. of incorrect answers x 0.66
Paper 2: No. of right answers x 2 - No. of incorrect answers x 0.83

In case of Paper 1 (GS), 1/3rd Negative marking is 0.66 Marks.
