The Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PMSTIAC) has launched nine new national science missions. these missions will be led by a nodal Ministry and in collaboration with academic institutions, other ministries and industry partners. the focus is on finding solutions to complex problems in each of the chosen field in a time-bound manner.

Nine Projects by Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council :-

These are the Nine Projects :

  1. Natural Language Translation Mission – The aim of the mission is to enable access to science teaching and research material in various native language of people in the country. For this, both machine and human translation will be utilised. Implementable solutions for the same will be chalked out in collaboration with scientists by central and state government agencies and start-ups.

  • Ministry of Human Resource Development
  • Department of Science and Technology
  1. Quantum Frontier – This mission sees to enhance the current capabilities of the country in the realm of quantum physics and further build capacity to develop quantum computers, quantum communication, quantum chemistry, sensors and new materials etc.

  • Department of Space
  • Department of Atomic Energy
  • Defence Research and Development organisation
  • Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
  1. Artificial Intelligence – The mission aims to benefit India in solving societal problems in areas like healthcare, smart cities, agriculture, infrastructure, education, transportation and mobility. Core capabilities in the field will be developed in collaboration with the academia and the industry players.

  • Department of Science and Technology
  • Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
  • Department of Biotechnology
  1. National Biodiversity Mission – This mission involves comprehensive documentation, cataloguing and mapping of India’s biodiversity. It also documents cultural and traditional practices; assesses the distribution and conservation status of India’s biodiversity; development of professionals to handle large sets of environmental data for management and monitoring of biodiversity; and many more activities that will build a biodiversity based economy.

  • Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change
  • Department of Biotechnology
  1. Electric Vehicles – The mission aims to develop indigenous capabilities based on sound research for developing an electric vehicle ecosystem where battery components, energy efficient materials, electric motors etc., will be developed within the country.

  • Department of Heavy Industries
  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
  • Ministry of Power
  • NITI Aayog
  1. BioScience for Human Health – This mission is to study the human genomes; the impact of nature on nurture on human health; constructing a genome map; and understanding how various environments affect the human health. The outcomes of the research will be used for diagnosing and treating various diseases effectively.

  1. Waste to Wealth – The mission is to develop and deploy new technologies that can efficiently turn waste to wealth.

  1. Deep Ocean Exploration – The mission is to explore the depths of the oceans and toe enhance the knowledge on deep oceans. Also, to understand the impact of climate change on the oceans. Through the mission, deep sea exploration technologies will be developed such as underwater exploration vehicles etc.

  1.  AGNIi – This mission is to boost the innovation ecosystem in the country. It is done by connecting the innovators, bringing their technology ready products to the market and propelling techno-entrepreneurship to usher in a new era of inclusive socio-economic growth.
