Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan

Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) has formulated the Accessible India Campaign i.e Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan.
-
It is a nation-wide campaign for achieving universal accessibility for PwDs.
-
It aims to enable persons with disabilities to gain universal access, equal opportunity for development, independent living and participation in an inclusive society in all aspects of life.
-
It is in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)to which India is a signatory.
-
The campaign targets three separate verticals for achieving universal accessibility namelythe built up environment, transportation eco-system and information & communication eco-system.
-
DEPwD is collaborating with Ministry of Home, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Ministry of Tourism for this.
-
Targets under the campaign – Envisages making all railway stations of A1, A & B-categories and the international airports fully accessible to the disabled.

Conducts accessibility audit of all the international airports, domestic airports, and major railway stations.
-
Seeks to convert at least 10% of government owned public transport carriers in the country fully accessible carriers for disabled persons by March 2018.

At least 50% of all public documents by the Central and State Governments to meet accessibility standards for persons with disabilities by March 2018.
Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS)

It is to create an enabling environment to ensure equal opportunities, equity, and social justice and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

It encourages voluntary action for ensuring effective implementation of the people with disabilities (equal opportunities and protection of rights) act of 1995.

The definition of disability includes Blindness, Low vision, Leprosy-cured, Hearing impairment, Loco motor disability, Mental retardation and Mental illness.

Parents/guardians and voluntary organisations are encouraged to provide rehabilitation services.

To provide financial assistance to facilitate delivery of various services to voluntary organizations’ grants-in-aid to NGOS.
Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana
-
“Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana”, a ‘Scheme for providing Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices for Senior citizens belonging to BPL category’ will be soon launched by the Union Government.
-
It is the first-of-its-kind Central Sector Scheme (CCS) in India, to be fully funded by the Central Government. It is expected to benefit 5, 20,000 Senior Citizens.

The Scheme will be implemented through the sole implementing agency, ‘Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO)’, (a PSU under M/o SJ&E), which will undertake one year free maintenance of the aids & assisted living devices.

Beneficiaries will be identified by the State Governments/UTs through a Committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner/District Collector.

The devices will help the Senior Citizens to overcome their age related physical impairment and to lead a dignified and productive life. As far as possible, 30% of the beneficiaries in each district shall be women.
National Workshop on Autism Tools INCLEN and ISAA

A meeting of Master Trainers from all parts of the country was recently held at the ‘National Training Workshop on Autism using International Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN) and Indian Scale of Assessment of Autism (ISAA) Tools’.

It was organized by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The aim of the workshop was to train and empower health care professionals like paediatricians, psychologists & psychiatrists to be trained as Master Trainers.
-
These Master Trainer will further train required number of professionals in their respective States.
-
In order to maintain uniformity and standard in assessment of autism, two types of assessment tools were recommended: One is INCLEN Tool and the other tool is ISAA.
-
Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder spanning entire life. There is no definitive cure.

Bunkar Mitra is a Helpline for hand holding of Handloom weavers launched by Ministry of Textiles.

The professional queries of weavers will be answered by the experts in the field using this helpline.

It is single point of contact where weavers can seek solutions for their technical issues/problems.

Swadesh Darshan

It is to develop theme-based tourist circuits on the principles of high tourist value,competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner to enrich tourist experience and enhance employment opportunities.

Under the scheme, thirteen thematic circuits have been identified, for development -North-East India Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit and Heritage Circuit.
Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD)

It is to identify and develop pilgrimage tourist destination on the principles of high tourist visits, competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner to enrich tourist experience and enhance employment opportunities.

Under the PRASAD scheme thirteen sites have been identified for development, namely:Amritsar, Ajmer, Dwaraka, Mathura, Varanasi, Gaya, Puri, Amaravati, Kanchipuram,Vellankanni, Kedarnath, Kamakhya and Patna.

Under the ‘PRASAD’ scheme the focus is on development and beautification of the identified pilgrimage destinations.

Whereas, in the ‘Spiritual Circuit’ identified under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, the thrust is on development of particular thematic circuit consisting of various religious/spiritual destination in a State and Union Territory.

Note – HRIDAY Cities covers all PRASAD sites except Kedarnath and Kamakhya and instead it includes Warangal, Badami and Patna. HRIDAY comes under the Ministry ofUrban Development
